Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Wah (UW), was invited speaker at the 4th International Workshop on Nuclear Theory (INTW2026), held in Antalya, Türkiye, from 27 September to 03 October 2026. Prof. Jameel shared his latest research findings at this international forum where reputed researchers from Germany, Russia, Japan, Türkiye and other countries participated. His talk titled “Enhanced Heating Rates for Superburst Ignition", explored the role of gamma-heating in accreting neutron stars and its potential significance in understanding the ignition of superbursts.
The international workshop, themed “Nuclei and Hypernuclei in Relativistic Ion Collisions", brings together researchers from around the world to discuss recent developments in nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure, reactions, decay, and related fields.
In his talk, Prof. Dr. Nabi discussed the role of gamma emission following electron captures in providing additional heating in accreting neutron-star crusts. His study examined gamma-heating rates associated with key nuclei and demonstrated that nuclear deformation and pairing correlations can substantially influence the calculated heating rates. The findings indicate that enhanced gamma-heating from excited-state contributions may help address challenges associated with superburst ignition depths and recurrence times, contributing to a deeper understanding of nuclear processes under extreme astrophysical conditions.
Vice Chancellor-UW’s participation as an invited speaker at the international workshop highlights the University’s commitment to the global scientific community and its contribution to research in nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics.
