University of Wah organized a workshop titled “China’s Higher Education System and Knowledge-based Economy: Opportunities for Pakistani Students” to commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China on 14 May 2026. The event was held in a hybrid format.
The workshop was conducted under the CPEC Consortium of Universities in collaboration with the Women Development Department, Government of Punjab, as part of the Chief Minister of Punjab Female Ambassador Program. The initiative aimed to promote gender-inclusive participation in academia, innovation, and economic development. The event was hosted by Dr. Asma Arif, Focal Person, Women Development Department, Government of Punjab, and Ms. Maira Kashaf Raja, Female Ambassador.
The session brought together academicians, researchers, students, and distinguished guests to discuss the long-standing Pakistan-China diplomatic partnership and contemporary global challenges, including conflicts, climate change, and public health. The event attracted more than 200 participants from across the country, representing various academic institutions and professional organizations.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Saleem Iqbal, Associate Professor and Former Director of Academics, University of Wah, who highlighted the evolving role of universities in building knowledge-based economies, fostering innovation-driven growth, and China’s transformation from “Made in China” to “Created in China.” He also emphasized global innovation trends, artificial intelligence-driven development, scientific research, and industrial transformation, along with academic and research opportunities in China for Pakistani students, including scholarships, exchange programs, and research collaborations.
An interactive question-and-answer session followed, where participants discussed the role of youth in strengthening Pakistan-China cooperation. Speakers appreciated the Chief Minister of Punjab's Female Ambassador Program for promoting women’s participation in academia, leadership, and economic development.
In the closing remarks, Dr. Amjad Hassan, Director-ORIC, University of Wah, extended appreciation to the Women Development Department, Government of Punjab, and the university leadership for their continued support in promoting gender-inclusive initiatives. He also congratulated the Department of Chemical Engineering and the University of Wah on the achievement of student Ms. Misbah Zafar, who was awarded a PKR 1 million grant by the Chief Minister of Punjab for her outstanding project. The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening women’s participation in innovation, scientific entrepreneurship, and the broader knowledge ecosystem.
