The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), in collaboration with the Centre for Peace and Secular Studies (CPSS), organized an interactive seminar titled “Promoting Civic Education, Tolerance, and Peaceful Co-Existence” on 22 January 2026, at University of Wah (UW). The seminar was conducted in line with the Government of Punjab’s policy framework to promote civic education, tolerance, and social cohesion in higher education institutions. It also complemented discussions held during the vice chancellor’s meeting on 24 December 2025, which emphasized the role of universities in adopting non-kinetic approaches to counter extremism and foster responsible citizenship.
Prior to the seminar, a PHEC-CPSS delegation comprising Dr. Muhammad Asif Munir, Director General (Finance & Planning), PHEC; Mr. Shahid Imran, Deputy Director (Quality Assurance), PHEC; Dr. Afaq Durrez, Consultant, CPSS; and Mr. Sumeer Kumar, Project Coordinator, CPSS, met with Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Wah, along with the Registrar and Director ORIC, to discuss academic collaboration and civic engagement initiatives.
The seminar was attended by a large number of students, faculty members, and senior university officials. Brig. (Retd.) Shajee Ullah Quadri Ameem, Registrar, UW, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The proceedings began with a welcome address by Dr. Afaq Durrez (CPSS), followed by a guest lecture on “Civic Education and Civic Responsibilities” by Prof. Dr. Asim Karim, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UW. The speakers highlighted the significance of tolerance, civic responsibility, and peaceful coexistence in academic and social life.
In his concluding remarks, the Chief Guest underscored the vital role of universities in nurturing informed, responsible, and peaceful citizens. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Muhammad Asif Munir, followed by the exchange of commemorative shields between PHEC and the University of Wah.
