Workshop on “75 Years of China-Pakistan Bilateral Relations: Wars, Global Warming, and Human Health”

Monday, May 4, 2026

University of Wah (UW) organized a hybrid workshop titled “75 Years of China-Pakistan Bilateral Relations: Wars, Global Warming, and Human Health” on 04 May 2026. The event was held under the CPEC Consortium of Universities in collaboration with the Women Development Department, Government of Punjab, as part of the Chief Minister, Punjab Female Ambassador Program, which promotes gender-inclusive participation in academia, innovation, and socio-economic development.

The workshop brought together more than 400 participants, including academicians, researchers, students, and professionals from various institutions across the country. The session was hosted by Dr. Asma Arif (Focal Person, Women Development Department, Punjab) along with Female Ambassador Ms. Maira Kashaf Raja.

Prof. Dr. Shujaul Mulk Khan, Department of Plant Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and a member of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, served as the keynote speaker. He highlighted key milestones in the China-Pakistan partnership, including strategic cooperation, economic collaboration under CPEC, academic exchange, and scientific linkages.

The speaker also addressed the interconnections between armed conflicts, climate change, and human health. Drawing on historical and contemporary examples, he discussed environmental and public health impacts of wars, emphasizing how modern conflicts contribute to complex patterns of pollution and ecological degradation. He stressed the importance of international cooperation, sustainable policy frameworks, and scientific innovation to address these global challenges. An interactive discussion session engaged participants on themes such as climate resilience, renewable energy, air pollution control, healthcare systems, forced migration, and the role of youth in strengthening Pakistan-China relations.

In their closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Amjad Hassan (Director ORIC), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rizwan (Dean, Social Sciences), and Prof. Dr. Waqas Hassan (Chairperson, Biosciences), from UW, expressed gratitude to the guest speaker, participants, and partner institutions. Appreciation was extended to the Government of Punjab’s Women Development Department and the University leadership for their continued support of inclusive academic initiatives. Dr. Asma Arif acknowledged the contributions of faculty and students from the Department of Economics and other departments in the successful organization of the event.

The workshop concluded with a commitment to strengthening Pakistan-China relations while promoting peace, environmental sustainability, scientific collaboration, and inclusive development.
