Department of Economics, University of Wah, organized an awareness webinar titled “Climate Change, Sustainable Development, and the Role of Women in Building a Green Economy in Pakistan" on 16 March 2026. The event aimed to educate students about environmental sustainability and highlight the critical role of women in climate action.
The webinar was conducted under the Female Ambassadors Program of the Women's Development Department, Government of Punjab. The session was hosted by Female Ambassador Ms. Maira Kashaf Raja, who welcomed participants and introduced the topic.
The keynote speaker, Ms. Rehana Ali Naqvi, an environmentalist and lecturer at Department of Economics, delivered an insightful talk on the gendered impacts of climate change. She emphasized that climate change disproportionately affects women, particularly in developing countries, due to social and economic vulnerabilities.
During her presentation, Ms. Naqvi explained the concept of a green economy, highlighting that investments in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and environmentally friendly transportation can promote economic growth while ensuring environmental protection. She encouraged students to adopt sustainable practices and become advocates for climate awareness in their communities. She also highlighted the vital role of universities and youth in tackling environmental challenges through research, awareness campaigns, and sustainable lifestyles.
The webinar concluded with an interactive discussion and a call for students, especially young women, to actively contribute to environmental protection and sustainable development in Pakistan. Dr. Asma Arif, Focal Person of the Women Development Department atUniversity of Wah, appreciated the participation of students and reiterated the department’s commitment to empowering women and promoting awareness on important social and environmental issues.
