University of Wah, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities organized the National Conference titled Pakistan’s National Security: Vision 2030 on 24 May, 2022. The theme of the Conference was the deliberation and pondering on the challenges that we confront in the contemporary time while engendering a thoughtful probe on future tribulations to generate a peep into the Vision 2030. Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Wah welcomed the guests in the inaugural session and stressed the need to face the demands of both contemporary and future times and also accentuated the consideration of traditional and non- traditional security issues such as global pandemic, domestic divisions and the national vulnerabilities being the continuous threats for our sustainable survival. Prof. Dr. Nazir Hussain, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities stated that discussing/debating the national security issues is a continuous process which should be sustained in future as well. He, also, emphasized that educational institutions are the torch bearers to carry out and forward this process further. Ambassador Naghmana Hashmi, in her keynote address, shed light on the importance of inculcating the awareness of security issues among the young generation. She deemed social justice and responsible citizenship as the cornerstones of internal and external security and also highlighted that we should break the shackles of socioeconomic slavery to get the true emancipation. The Chief Guest, Air Vice Marshal Faiz Aamir, former Vice Chancellor Air University, emphasized that national security does not only mean the security at the borders but also the development and maintenance of immaculate law and order of the country. He complimented the efforts of University of Wah for initiating security- debate in the public domain. The first session on Traditional Security was chaired by Prof. Amna Mehmood, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, International Islamic University. This session was addressed by Prof. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal from Quaid-e -Azam University; Prof. Muhammad Khan from International Islamic University and Dr. Ghulam Mujaddid from Air University. The focus of the Session was on the repression of wars and maintenance of internal security. The second session was chaired by Ms. Sabah Aslam, Founder and Executive Director of Islamabad Institute of Conflict Resolution. The Session was addressed by Mr. Azhar Ahmed from Bahria University, Prof. Tughral Yamin from National University of Science and Technology, Dr. Salma Malik from Quaid-i-Azam University, and Ms. Reema Shaukat from Institute of Regional Studies. The speakers stressed on the maintenance of foolproof security through the awareness of internal and external security dynamics. They, also, applauded the UW’s initiative towards the enlightenment of traditional and non-traditional security threats in our changing world. In the concluding Session, Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor University of Wah, and Prof. Dr. Nazir Hussain, Dean Social Sciences and Humanities thanked the guests for their participation. The Conference proved to be extremely successful in fulfilling its desired goals.
