University of Wah (UW) has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the COMSTECH, marking a significant step toward strengthening academic cooperation and research collaboration at both national and international levels.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at the COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad, on 31 March 2026. The agreement was signed by the Vice Chancellor- UW, Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, and the Coordinator General COMSTECH, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary (Mustafa ﷺ Prize Laureate, H.I., S.I., T.I.).
The Vice Chancellor was accompanied by the Director- ORIC, Prof. Dr. Amjad Hassan. The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Murtaza Noor, Focal Person, along with senior officials, advisors, and a distinguished gathering of experts and representatives from OIC member states.
The agreement envisages advancing collaborative initiatives in higher education, scientific research, and capacity-building. Both institutions have agreed to undertake joint academic and research programs, facilitate the exchange of scholars, researchers, and students, and promote the dissemination of knowledge in areas of shared academic interest.
A key feature of this partnership is the provision of fellowship opportunities for students from OIC member states to pursue graduate studies at UW. Under this initiative, fellowships will be offered in programs such as MS Computer Science, MS Management Sciences, and MS Natural Sciences. As part of the fellowship package, UW will provide a full tuition fee waiver, free on-campus accommodation, and complimentary meals throughout the duration of the academic programs, while COMSTECH will cover international air travel expenses for selected students. This initiative aims to enhance research capabilities and foster stronger academic linkages across OIC member countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi expressed his gratitude to COMSTECH for this collaboration and highlighted its importance in strengthening academic excellence, innovation, and international engagement at the University. He also extended an invitation to the Coordinator General and other experts to visit UW and witness its academic and research activities.
Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary emphasized that the agreement shows COMSTECH’s continued dedication to advancing scientific cooperation and expanding access to quality higher education across OIC member states. He underscored the critical role of institutional partnerships in addressing contemporary global challenges through science, technology, and innovation.
Furthermore, both parties agreed to collaborate in organizing conferences, seminars, workshops, and specialized training programs, while also promoting the mobility of researchers and faculty members. The leadership of COMSTECH appreciated UW’s commitment to supporting educational initiatives aimed at capacity building in the Muslim world. The ceremony was also attended by experts, advisors, and notable representatives from OIC member states.
This strategic partnership is expected to open new avenues for academic exchange, research collaboration, and sustainable partnerships, contributing significantly to strengthening scientific cooperation among OIC countries and advancing human resource development in science and technology.
