University of Wah organized an e-workshop titled “75 Years of China-Pakistan Relations: The Evolving Role of Women in Strengthening Bilateral Ties” on 24 April 2026. The event was conducted in a hybrid format to commemorate the longstanding diplomatic partnership between Pakistan and China.
The workshop, held under the umbrella of the CPEC Consortium of Universities, was organized in collaboration with the Women Development Department of Punjab as part of the Chief Minister of Punjab's Female Ambassador Program. The event was hosted by Dr. Asma Arif, Focal Person of the Women Development Department, Punjab, along with female ambassador Ms. Maira Kashaf Raja.
The workshop attracted over 400 attendees from across the nation, including representatives from academia, professional organizations, and various institutions. The keynote address was delivered by Commodore (Retd.) Imran ul Haq, former Director of the Pakistan-China Study and Research Center at Bahria University, Islamabad.
In his address, Commodore Imran ul Haq highlighted the growing significance of women in foreign policy, economic collaboration, and initiatives such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. He emphasized that Pakistan-China relations have evolved into a people-centric partnership, where women are increasingly contributing through educational exchanges, entrepreneurship, and vocational training programs, particularly in regions like Thar and Gwadar. He further stressed the importance of creating structured opportunities for young women in leadership, research, and innovation, while pointing toward future initiatives such as the China Sinology Center and digital collaboration platforms.
An interactive Q&A session followed, led by Dr. Sania Shaheen, Chairperson of the Department of Economics, where participants discussed challenges faced by women in diplomacy, opportunities for cross-border entrepreneurship, and the role of media in highlighting women’s contributions to bilateral relations.
In their closing remarks, the organizers expressed gratitude to the guest speaker, participants, and supporting institutions. Special appreciation was extended to the Government of Punjab and the University leadership for their continued support of gender-inclusive initiatives. Dr. Asma Arif also acknowledged the efforts of students and faculty, particularly from the Department of Economics, in ensuring the success of the event. The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment to empowering women as key contributors to sustainable development and strengthening the enduring partnership between Pakistan and China.
