Vice Chancellor's participated as an invited speaker at the 4th International Workshop on Nuclear Theory (INTW2026), Türkiye

Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Wah (UW), was invited speaker at the 4th International Workshop on Nuclear Theory (INTW2026), held in Antalya, Türkiye, from 27 September to 03 October 2026. Prof. Jameel shared his latest research findings at this international forum where reputed researchers from Germany, Russia, Japan, Türkiye and other countries participated. His talk titled “Enhanced Heating Rates for Superburst Ignition", explored the role of gamma-heating in accreting neutron stars and its potential significance in understanding the ignition of superbursts.

The international workshop, themed “Nuclei and Hypernuclei in Relativistic Ion Collisions", brings together researchers from around the world to discuss recent developments in nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure, reactions, decay, and related fields.

In his talk, Prof. Dr. Nabi discussed the role of gamma emission following electron captures in providing additional heating in accreting neutron-star crusts. His study examined gamma-heating rates associated with key nuclei and demonstrated that nuclear deformation and pairing correlations can substantially influence the calculated heating rates. The findings indicate that enhanced gamma-heating from excited-state contributions may help address challenges associated with superburst ignition depths and recurrence times, contributing to a deeper understanding of nuclear processes under extreme astrophysical conditions.

Vice Chancellor-UW’s participation as an invited speaker at the international workshop highlights the University’s commitment to the global scientific community and its contribution to research in nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics.

Vice Chancellor’s Activities at Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Türkiye

Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Wah (UW), undertook a series of academic and institutional activities at Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ), Türkiye, including a research seminar, visits to academic and research facilities, and interactions with faculty members, researchers, and students.

As a guest speaker at a Nuclear Astrophysics Seminar organized by Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Letters, MAKÜ, on 28 September 2026, Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi delivered a talk titled “The Role of Excited-State GT Distributions in Lifting Pauli Blocking at Finite Temperatures in Neutron-Rich N=50 Isotopes.” The seminar, held at Faculty of Science and Letters Conference Hall, focused on his research concerning Gamow-Teller transitions, finite-temperature effects, and excited-state contributions in neutron-rich nuclei, with particular relevance to electron-capture processes during the collapse of massive stars.

Faculty members, researchers, and students attended the seminar, followed by a question-and-answer session that provided an opportunity for scholarly discussion and academic exchange. In recognition of his contribution to the seminar, Prof. Dr. Nabi was presented with a certificate of appreciation.

During his visit, VC-UW also toured laboratories and academic and research facilities at MAKÜ, gaining insight into university’s research infrastructure and academic environment. His interactions with faculty members provided further opportunities for the exchange of academic perspectives and discussion of areas of shared research interest.

The visit provided a valuable platform for scholarly exchange, international academic interaction, and strengthening research linkages between University of Wah and MAKÜ.

Participation of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi in Academic Seminar at Kirikkale University, Türkiye

Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Wah (UW), participated as an invited guest speaker in an academic seminar titled “Calculation of Log ft Values and ß-Decay Modes in sd-Shell Nuclei” at Kirikkale University, Türkiye, on 24 September 2026, engaging with the university’s academic community on contemporary developments in nuclear physics and opportunities for strengthening international research collaboration.

The seminar, organized by the Physics Society of Kirikkale University, provided a platform for academic interaction among students, faculty members, and researchers. The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Mahmut Böyükata, Head, Department of Physics, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and was attended by Prof. Dr. Murat Lüy, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, along with academic and administrative staff and students.

The program commenced with a moment of silence and the national anthem, followed by opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Mahmut Böyükata, who briefed the participants on the historical development of nuclear physics and contemporary areas of research in the field.

During the session, Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi shared insights into contemporary theoretical research in nuclear physics, particularly studies concerning ß-decay in sd-shell nuclei. He discussed the calculation of Log ft values and ß-decay modes, highlighting findings related to ß-decay half-lives and their consistency with various theoretical calculations. He also elaborated on the significance of such studies for advancing understanding of nuclear structure and ß-decay processes.

The academic engagement also featured discussion on opportunities to strengthen scientific and academic collaboration between Pakistan and Türkiye, including potential avenues for joint research and academic initiatives between universities of the two countries.

The interactive session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, during which Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi responded to students’ queries and discussed aspects of contemporary research in nuclear physics. At the end, Prof. Dr. Murat Lüy presented a commemorative gift to the Vice Chancellor (VC).

The participation of VC shows the UW’s commitment to international academic engagement, research exchange, and strengthening institutional linkages with universities and academic institutions abroad.
