University of Wah, to advance research excellence and foster international partnerships that support sustainable development and technological progress, has achieved another significant milestone with the establishment of the Wuhan City (China-Pakistan) Joint Laboratory for Extreme-Environment New Energy Storage and Grid Connection Technology on 06 April 2026. The School of New Energy and Electrical Engineering at Hubei University in Wuhan, China, has initiated the laboratory under the Belt and Road Initiative.
This landmark initiative is a major step forward in strengthening academic and research ties between Pakistan and China. It aligns with the strategic vision of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and aims to foster innovation in advanced energy technologies while addressing pressing global energy challenges, particularly in extreme environmental conditions.
The joint laboratory will be co-led by distinguished scholars from both partner institutions. Professor Tao Mei, Dean, School of New Energy and Electrical Engineering at Hubei University, will serve as the Chinese Director, while Prof. Dr. Uzma Ghazanfar, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, University of Wah, will act as the Pakistani Director. Dr. Muhammad Sultan Irshad has also played a pivotal role as a key contributor to the collaborative process.
The laboratory will focus on key research areas critical to the global transition toward sustainable energy, including:
