

A lecture on Smog Awareness and Quality Education was delivered on December 11, 2024, by Mr. Muhammad Haroon, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, and Dr. Saleem Iqbal, Chairperson of Chemical Engineering. The session, attended by over 300 students of Post Graduate College for Women, Wah Cantt, highlighted the urgent need for addressing environmental challenges and the importance of quality education in shaping a sustainable future. The students actively participated and displayed a keen interest in the topic, recognizing their role in combating smog and promoting awareness for a healthier environment.
University of Wah, to advance literary, the enduring spirit of unity and learning, proudly contributed to the success of the Family Festival & Book Fair 2024. This two-day event from 07-08 December 2024, held at POF Guest House, Wah Cantt, was organized by the National Book Foundation (NBF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Bhatti Book Center, and with support from the UW Alumni Association, as a proud community partner. The festival witnessed a strong emphasis on fostering a love for reading and literature among attendees of all ages. Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice-Chancellor, University of Wah, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, he highlighted the transformative power of unity and the pivotal role of books in shaping intellectual and moral foundations. His message, "Be united—that's it," resonated deeply with the audience. He also visited the different stalls at the festival and appreciated their efforts to promote the culture of lifelong learning.

Department of Sociology, University of Wah organized a community outreach event titled "Campus to Community: How College Students Can Drive Local Development through Civic Engagement" on 30 October 2024 at Government Associate Degree College for Women in Gadwal, Wah Cantt. Dr. Jameel Ahmad Sheikh, Chairperson, Department of Sociology, attended the event, and Ms. Shehla Nazmeen, Senior Lecturer, Sociology Department, was the resource person. Students and faculty members enthusiastically participated in the event, underscoring civic engagement's importance in fostering local development. Ms. Bibi Hajra a clinical Psychologist and faculty member at the department of psychology, University of Wah served as a resource person at National Institute of Special Education (NISE) on the topic “ Addressing Developmental Delays: Assessments , Intervention and Support, held on 23rd Sep, 2024.
National Institute of Special Education under the Ministry of Human Rights, Directorate General of special education organized one week national training on “ Understanding Intellectual Disabilities: Foundations and practices”. A faculty member who is also a clinical Psychologist served as a resource person in the training held on 23rd of August 2024. She shed light on the transition planning for Id children and also their rights and advocacy.

A lecture on Quality Education and Career Counseling was conducted by the Directorate of Admissions, Wah Engineering College, for the students of Mashal Degree College on February 29, 2024. Following the lecture, students were given the opportunity to visit the college's labs to further enhance their knowledge.
Students of BS V-B, Psychology Department, University of Wah, accompanied by Ms. Rahma Sohail, Lecturer, Department of Psychology, as a testament to their commitment to community welfare and mental health advocacy, extended a compassionate hand to the children of Edhi Foundation’s Orphanage House, Islamabad. The multi-faceted visit aimed to impart psychosocial skills to the children at Edhi Centre by engaging them in activities to enhance their emotional well-being and resilience, including gross motor skill exercises, play therapy, art therapy, and lessons on anger management, emotional regulation, and negative & positive touch. The visiting students provided psychological counseling and support, and despite the children's adversities, they displayed remarkable resilience, hope, and eagerness to learn. The visit gave students practical experience and promoted empathy, understanding, and social responsibility.
National institute of special education (NISE) under ministry of Human Rights conducted training courses for capacity building of manpower working for education, training and rehabilitation of persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in public and private sector. It aims to equip the teachers, students and professionals with necessary knowledge on transition planning of children with Intellectual Disability Disorders (IDD).
Ms. Bibi Hajra, faculty from the department of psychology, university of Wah served as a Resource person for “one week training course on Transition plan for intellectual disability disorder: Emotional Well-being and Sound Parenting on 2nd February 2024.
Students from BS-V A, Department of Psychology, University of Wah, as part of a meaningful outreach initiative, visited the Base School System, Wah Cantt, on 29 January 2024 to engage with children who face specific challenges such as autism, cerebral palsy, attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), and learning disabilities. The visit included different socio-emotional and behavioral modification activities such as applied behavior analysis techniques, art therapy, play therapy, emotional awareness, "Identify the Emoji," and occupational therapy (gross motor activation) to support the children's unique needs. Under the guidance of Ms. Rahma Sohail, Lecturer, Department of Psychology, these activities focused on fostering socio-emotional stability and cultivating positive emotions among them. Moreover, counseling services were also offered to parents of differentiable children for emotional support and advice. Certificates were given to students for their dedicated efforts towards a noble cause, and gifts were presented to children as a source of motivation.
Departments of Chemical and Civil Engineering, Wah Engineering College, University of Wah participated and outshined in the 2nd Federal & 4th Engineering Capstone Expo 2024 organized by the Pakistan Engineering Council on 23 January 2024, at Islamabad. PEC's CAPSTONE initiative provides universities in Pakistan with free market exposure and networking opportunities with world-class engineering manufacturers by sponsoring market-compatible projects. Dr. Saleem Iqbal, Associate Professor and Engr. Rabia Sabir, Lecturer, Department of Chemical Engineering, supervised projects "Production of Synthetic Natural Gas through Thermochemical Conversion of Solid Waste" and "Production of Hydrogen from Rice Straw for Fuel Cells," secured 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively, in the categories of Chemical and Agriculture Engineering, while Dr. Taimur Mazhar Sheikh, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering supervised project, "The Self-Healing and Self-Sensing Capabilities of Graphene Oxide (GO) Nano-reinforced Bacterial Concrete," secured 3rd position in the Civil and Allied Engineering category.
University of Wah Science Society (UWSS), in collaboration with the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), presented a captivating four-day event, PSF Science Caravan, a dynamic initiative within the PSF's Science Popularization program framework on 09-12 January 2024. This collaborative effort aims to bring science wonders to colleges and schools, bridging the gap between academia and the broader community. The Science Caravan is a mobile platform that travels to educational institutions to foster a love for science among students. Its mission is to ignite curiosity and encourage students to explore science in a fun and interactive way. Many students from Mashal Degree College, Scholars College Taxila, Askari College for Boys Taxila, Sir Syed College Campus 1, Riphah International College, and POFIT participated in the Science Caravan. They participated in interactive exhibits, demonstrations, and visits to the UW Lab Complex and Faculty of Basic Sciences labs. The students examined human physiology and microbiology slides in a PSF van parked in front of the UW Lab Complex. They also viewed mesmerizing demonstrations of space and galaxies in a vast balloon assembled in E-Hall. The Science Caravan provided hands-on experiments and engaging presentations, creating an immersive learning environment for the students. The collaboration between UWSS and PSF enriched the educational landscape, promoted science in daily life, and showcased a commitment to community engagement, making science accessible.
ORIC, University of Wah (UW) organized a visit for Beaconhouse Wah Cantt students of O3 and A Levels to University of Wah on 04 January 2024. The visit aimed to give students a comprehensive understanding of UW’s academic programs, research system, and state-of-the-art available facilities. The visit encompassed informative sessions in Computer Science, Management Sciences, and Basic Sciences, as well as at Wah Engineering College. During the visit, students participated in discussions, conducted lab experiments, attended lectures, and gained valuable exposure to diverse academic fields. The enlightening sessions with esteemed faculty deans have significantly augmented students' comprehension of the intricate research ecosystem, exemplifying the unwavering commitment to fostering educational exchanges and nurturing intellectual curiosity in the collaborative efforts between ORIC-UW and Beaconhouse. The visit was successful, effectively enriching the knowledge of Beaconhouse students about the academic offerings and facilities of UW.
Department of Psychology, University of Wah (UW) admirably held its 5th Annual Mental Health Camp 2024, promoting awareness and well-being within the academic community on 21 November 2021. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi inaugurated the event, in his opening remarks, emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and the university’s role in addressing the psychological needs of its students, faculty, and staff. He visited every stall at the camp, participating in the activities and engaging with attendees. His involvement encouraged students and staff, demonstrating his commitment to mental health advocacy. Registrar, Deans, and Directors of the university also visited the stalls, showing their support for the initiative.
To engage attendees in meaningful conversations about mental health, the Camp featured a series of interactive stations, including psychological assessment booths where attendees could join in self-assessments, as well as specialized areas focusing on enhancing cognitive abilities, memory skills, and emotional resilience. Professional counselors from the Department of Psychology-UW were on hand throughout the day, offering one-on-one counseling services and psychological support to attendees. They provided valuable guidance, helping participants navigate stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges while also promoting techniques for positive mental well-being. Distinguished visitors from COMSATS University, Islamabad, Wah Campus, Wah Engineering College, Mashal Degree College, and Nasheman School attended the camp and praised the department’s efforts to raise mental health awareness and foster a positive environment.
A study on the development of an innovative type of pervious concrete was conducted by Mr. Muhammad Haroon, Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department. Pervious concrete is designed to allow water to permeate through its surface, preventing water accumulation on roads, thus enhancing durability and extending the lifespan of infrastructure. The concrete was prepared in the university’s laboratories through an industrial collaboration with Nanolite Private Ltd. This breakthrough offers a sustainable solution for urban areas prone to waterlogging and flooding. The study and the successful production of these advanced road materials received widespread acclaim from the academic and engineering communities. A documentary showcasing the project's significance was featured on ARY News, emphasizing the potential of this technology to revolutionize road construction and infrastructure resilience.
