University of Wah (UW), in collaboration with the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), organized a symposium on 30 August 2024 to address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a focus on long-term impact. The event brought together experts and academics to discuss strategies for poverty alleviation and sustainable development in Pakistan. PPAF, a leading organization in poverty alleviation, has been at the forefront of efforts to combat poverty since its inception in February 1997. The organization operates as a representative body under Section 42 and serves as Pakistan's front arm with the World Bank and the federal government. Its primary mission is to alleviate poverty by addressing its root causes and promoting inclusive growth in alignment with the SDGs.
The symposium featured insightful presentations from key representatives of PPAF, including Mr. Arshad Rashid (Programmes Chief), Mr. Zahid Hussain Azad (Head of Monitoring, Evaluation, & Learning), and Mr. Siraj-ul-Haq (Expert Poverty Alleviation). They provided a comprehensive overview of PPAF's strategies for tackling SDGs, highlighting the importance of immediate relief efforts alongside long-term, sustainable development initiatives. The session is attended by Deans, Directors, Chairpersons, and the UW faculty members, fostering an engaging dialogue on potential collaborative projects. During the discussions, several innovative projects and study areas were identified that could significantly contribute to poverty alleviation and achieving SDGs in Pakistan. The collaboration between PPAF and UW aims to leverage academic research, community engagement, and policy advocacy to drive sustainable change.
This symposium marks the beginning of a promising partnership between University of Wah and PPAF, which aims to foster a more equitable and prosperous future for Pakistan.
