UW FM 101.8 radio, as part of its ongoing "UW Guest Podcast" series, interviewed Mr. Afshar Iqbal, Director, Communications & Advocacy, Pakistan Youth Change Advocates (PYCA), Islamabad. Mr. Afshar Iqbal, while talking with host Mr. Umar Hayat Khan, Station Manager-UW, discussed trans fats and their significant impact on public health. This interview, part of the "Transform Pakistan" initiative, aims to raise awareness and drive positive change in public health practices nationwide. Mr. Iqbal elaborated on the familiar sources of trans fats in the diet, such as partially hydrogenated oils found in processed foods, baked goods like cakes and cookies, fried foods, margarine, shortening, microwave popcorn, and packaged snacks like chips and crackers. He stressed the importance of consumers checking the Nutrition Facts label on food products for “Trans Fat” and being cautious of ingredients like "partially hydrogenated oils" or "hydrogenated oils," which indicate the presence of trans fats, even in small amounts.
