University of Wah participated in the prestigious 5th RASTA-PIDE Conference held in Islamabad from 26-27 February 2025, organized by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) under the RASTA research initiative, providing a platform for scholars to present groundbreaking research contributing to policy-driven solutions. Mr. Shoaib Muhammad, Lecturer, Civil Engineering Department, presented his closing research presentation of his research project titled "Comprehensive Assessment of Conventional Practices and Sustainable Pathways for Solid Waste Management: Integrating Perspectives, Practices, and Environmental Impact" that he was awarded last year under the CGP 6.0 (Competitive Grants Program). His research emphasizes the university's commitment to addressing environmental challenges through innovation and evidence-based policymaking.
The research team included Principal Investigator Mr. Shoaib Muhammad, Co-Principal Investigators Dr. Taimur Mazhar Sheikh, Research Associate Ms. Wajiha Ahmed from University of Wah and Dr. Musharib Khan from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad. The study emphasized key policy recommendations, including the integration of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) with mandated waste treatment options. These insights were submitted to the Ministry of Planning, underscoring the need for sustainable waste management solutions. The conference featured notable dignitaries, including Chief Guest Mr. Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives; Session Chair Mr. Waqas Anwar, Member Infrastructure, Planning Commission of Pakistan; and Discussant Mr. Nasir Javed, Former CEO, Urban Unit Lahore.
University of Wah demonstrated its diverse research expertise through the participation of Dr. Asma Arif, Chairperson, Economics Department; Dr. Mehwish Jabeen, Assistant Professor, Education Department; and Dr. Kamil Hussain, Assistant Professor, Management Sciences Department. Their presence at conference further highlighted the institution’s commitment to multidisciplinary research for sustainable development.
