Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rizwan, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, participated as the keynote speaker at an awareness seminar organized by Islamabad Convent School. The seminar, titled “Breaking the Silence: Combating Drug Abuse and Smoking Among Students and Their Harmful Effects on Physical and Psychological Well-Being,” was held at the school’s H-8/4 campus in Islamabad on 21 May 2026.
The event was coordinated under the supervision of Mrs. Saira Furqan S.I. (Civ), Manager, Ministry of Human Rights’ Family Protection & Rehabilitation Centre for Women, Islamabad. In his keynote address, Prof. Dr. Rizwan highlighted the psychological impact of substance abuse among youth, stressing the importance of emotional resilience, mental health awareness, and early intervention. To provide a comprehensive understanding of addiction and rehabilitation, experts from Healing Door Rehab & Psychiatric Center, including Mr. Asad Ali Noor, CEO and Addiction Therapist, and Ms. Ammara Shaarif, Clinical Psychologist, joined the session. The panel shared practical guidance on identifying warning signs of addiction and promoting a healthy, drug-free educational environment.
The seminar concluded with an interactive discussion session where students and faculty engaged with the speakers on issues related to peer pressure, smoking trends, and psychological coping strategies. Prof. Dr. Rizwan appreciated the efforts of the school administration, faculty, support staff, and students for organizing and actively participating in the awareness initiative.
