An MoU between Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) and University of Wah (UW) took place on 10 June, 2021. Both PCRWR and UW intend to carry out collaborative activities in areas of common interest of the organizations and agreed on joint research cooperation, technical sessions, exchange of education resource materials and satellite application for surface and groundwater monitoring. The MoU will also facilitate students from UW and its constituent colleges to undertake research at the field stations. The students will have free access to PCRWR research database. The MoU will be effective for a period of 03 years. Dr Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman, PCRWR and Prof Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, UW signed the MoU on behalf of their institutions.

Counselling and Placement Directorate (CPD) in collaboration with Department of Management Sciences, UW conducted a webinar on “Interviewing Skills” on 07 June, 2021 to benefit alumni and graduating students of UW. Dr Komal Khalid Bhatti, Associate Professor, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia was the guest speaker. She is a certified trainer and academician for the last 17 years. The purpose of the session was to improve students interviewing skills while stepping into their professional lives. The session covered training about pre-interview, during interview and post-interview tactics like preparing for the interview, body language, dress code, FAQs and interview follow-up. Over 100 students and alumni from different departments of University of Wah attended the webinar. The participants appreciated speaker for her valuable contribution and stressed on future collaborations as well. The webinar concluded with an interactive QA session. At the end of the session, A/Dir CPD announced that a mock interview session will also be conducted by CPD for practice, as sequel to this webinar.

Prof Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Wah delivered a keynote speech on “Spectroscopic Study of 9Be (p, γ) 10B at Astrophysical Energy” in XIV International Conference on Nuclear Structure Properties, NSP2021 held on 02-04 June, 2021 at Selcuk University, Konya, Turkey. Selcuk University is amongst the most prestigious universities of Turkey. The conference aimed at providing opportunities to exchange new ideas and application experiences, to establish research relations and to find academic partners for future collaborations in the fields of Nuclear Structure, Nuclear Scattering, Nuclear Analytical Methods, High Energy & Particle Physics, Nuclear Astrophysics, Nuclear Reactions, Nuclear Models, Medical & Health Physics, Radiation Measurements & Dosimeters, Nuclear Application in Life Science. A large number of renowned keynote speakers and researchers from more than 15 countries including USA, Germany, Japan, China, Russia, Pakistan, India, Turkey, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Morocco, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Czech, and Bulgaria attended and communicated their research findings in the conference. In his talk, Prof Jameel highlighted the significance of radiative capture reaction in the field of nuclear astrophysics. He provided an elaborate background pertaining to nucleosynthesis sites and presented his findings about the spectroscopic properties of 10B using the PM approach. He also announced the upcoming 4th Pak Turk Conference jointly organized by University of Wah and Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology. He informed the audience that the conference will be held on 03-04 November 2021.

Prof Dr Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Wah was interviewed by Prof Frank Timmes, Senior Lead Editor, American Astronomical Society Journals and a famous Astrophysicist, for his YouTube channel ASS Journal Author Series. The American Astronomical Society (AAS) is the major organization of professional astronomers in North America. Its membership of about 8,000 individuals also includes physicists, mathematicians, computer scientists, geologists, engineers, and others whose research and educational interests lie within the broad spectrum of subjects comprising contemporary astronomy. Prof Frank Timmes interviewed Prof Dr Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Wah. Prof Jameel has published more than 100 papers in international journals of high repute. The two talked about Prof Jameel's latest research article published in The Astrophysical Journal, titled "Investigation of Important Weak Interaction Nuclei in Presupernova Evolution". Prof Jameel explained his work in detail during the interview. He discussed the future impact and possibilities of the research and explained how exciting it can get to do research in the field of Astrophysics. At the end Prof Jameel motivated the young scientists to do research in the field of Astrophysics. He hoped that his work can be an inspiration to the young researchers of the field.

The interview contributed to improving the international image of University of Wah. The event is reflective of the vibrant research culture prevailing in the University of Wah.

Debating Club-UW organized an Essay Writing Competition on 28 April, 2021 in English as well as Urdu. Owing to closure of universities due to pandemic the competition was organized online. A total of 43 students from UW (Quaid and WEC Campuses) as well as adjoining universities including UET, Taxila; HITEC University, Taxila; and Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala actively participated in the event. Dr Syed Imran Raees, Dy Dir Student Affairs also joined the session as Chief Guest. He greeted the participants and appreciated their active involvement. The participants communicated their zeal in attending a literary activity during COVID’19. Areej Khan from Department of Chemistry-UW and Hajra Farooq from Gujranwala Medical College shared the 1st position, Anum Nawaz from Department of English-UW secured 2nd position and Muhammad Umair from Department of Biosciences-UW stood 3rd in the competition.

National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) at Higher Education Commission (HEC) arranged a four-week training course on “Online Teaching Level 1” from 20 March to 17 April, 2021 to train faculty of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) on online education system. The training session was attended by 302 members from twenty-two (22) HEIs across Pakistan. Ms Nazish Nawaz, Assistant Director QA&E, UW; Dr Haris Masood, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Wah Engineering College and Mr Tabish Gul, Lecturer, Department of Psychology, UW successfully completed the training and secured excellent grades.

Department of Chemistry organized a webinar titled “Production of Bio Plastics and Bio- nanocomposites from Industrial Wastes/Byproducts” on 14 April 2021 via Google Meet. Dr Muhammad Safder, an eminent scientist in the field of Chemical and Materials Engineering, from University of Alberta, Canada was the resource person. He highlighted the significance of bioplastic and bio-nanocomposites and its areas of research by sharing his current research being conducted at University of Alberta. A large number of faculty members, PhD and MS scholars from Department of Chemistry participated in the session and appreciated Dr M. Safder for his valuable input. The webinar ended with an interactive question answer session.

Department of English, University of Wah organized an event titled “Water for All” to celebrate World Water Day on 22 March, 2021. Students of Department of English actively participated in the event. The participants highlighted the importance of water conservation through speeches, documentaries, presentations, and skit performances. The main objective of the event was to raise awareness amongst masses on saving water for the 2.2 billion people living without access to clean water. A large number of students and faculty members from various departments of UW attended the event. The audience appreciated the efforts of the participants in highlighting a sensitive issue.

A one day “Mental Health Camp” was organized by Department of Psychology, University of Wah in collaboration with Counseling and Placement Directorate (CPD), UW on 18 March, 2021. The primary objective of the event was to promote awareness about mental health, psychological well-being, and stress management among UW populace. The team of Department of Psychology consisting of faculty and students of ADCP, also carried out the personality assessment of the participants. The camp included different activities such as on-spot guidance, personality and mental health assessment and quick tips on stress management. There were 17 help desks placed to help the visitors. Over 350 participants from faculty, students, and staff of different departments of UW visited and registered themselves for assessment and guidance. All the visitors actively participated in the camp and shared their valuable feedback. Prof Dr Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Wah also visited the camp and appreciated the efforts of organizers. He encouraged the organizers to plan and hold more camps like this.

Department of Management Sciences, University of Wah conducted a training workshop on “Anger Management” in collaboration with Counseling and Placement Directorate (CPD), UW on 11March, 2021. Ms Faiza Usman, a qualified management expert and life skills improvement trainer as well as CEO of a platform titled “Self Improvement Training” conducted the workshop. The workshop aimed at helping both the faculty and students to identify anger symptoms. It also highlighted some coping mechanisms at personal, interpersonal and managerial levels to overcome anger. A large number of faculty members and students attended and participated in the event enthusiastically. The workshop ended with an interactive question answer session.
